Guía de práctica clínica. Valoración geriátrica integral

Resumen


La atención del anciano requiere evaluación integral de los aspectos biológicos propios del organismo envejecido, los relacionados con las actividades de la vida diaria y funcionalidad, las concepciones neuropsicológicas, de la dinámica familiar y de las condiciones socioeconómicas. El crecimiento acelerado de la población envejecida va acompañado del incremento de enfermedades crónicas en individuos con mayor vulnerabilidad, cuya atención requiere mayor consumo de recursos y obliga a incorporar atención especializada, lo que ha provocado importantes consecuencias en el sistema de salud actual, donde se ha privilegiado la especialización, la tecnología y la pérdida de la visión integral y horizontal del paciente. Es necesario elaborar una herramienta práctica que le permita al médico identificar y diferenciar a la población geriátrica que requiere atención especializada de la que no, así como los problemas susceptibles de mejorar y diseñar las estrategias para mejorar la condición de salud y mantener la autonomía funcional del adulto mayor. La valoración geriátrica integral es una herramienta fundamental para la práctica de cualquier médico que atiende ancianos.
