Guía para la evaluación gerontológica integral

Resumen


Debido al envejecimiento de la población mexicana derivado de la transición epidemiológica y consecuente aumento en la demanda de atención por los adultos mayores, se consideró importante diseñar un instrumento que permita el abordaje integral de las condiciones de salud  de las personas a partir de los 60 años, con el fin de apoyar al personal médico y de enfermería en la atención de los principales problemas de salud en esta población. La guía de evaluación gerontológica integral incluye seis de las principales prioridades de salud en los adultos mayores (problemas de visión, audición, caídas o dificultad al caminar, trastornos de la nutrición, trastornos de memoria y alteraciones del sueño), así como cuatro aspectos fundamentales en la evaluación (consumo de medicamentos, funcionalidad física, calidad de vida y apoyo social). Se ofrecen recomendaciones sencillas para la detección, diagnóstico y alternativas de manejo en atención primaria.
