Abstract
Akira Endo identified a cholesterol-lowering substance that antagonized HMG-CoA reductase, decreasing cholesterol biosynthesis. These studies led to the development of statin, which was efficient to decrease cholesterol levels in blood in order to prevent atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
