Abstract

Objective: to assess if there is a profile of adolescent students for suiciding, if screening it at school contributes to design an intervention program, and to determine if such characterization facilitates the referral to psychological community services.

Methods: participants were detected in a secondary school with 482 adolescents. An intervention stra-tegy program was applied. The profile of 72 ado-lescent students at risk is described. Personality was assessed with the risk to suicide with the IRIS.

Results: the characteristic study sample of 72 adoles-cents at-risk (52 girls, 20 boys, age 13.47 ± 1.07) exhibited heterogeneous personality profiles and MMPI-A code types, which introduces a new dimen-sion that must be taken into account to improve suicide psychological interventions.

Conclusion: assessing personality traits allows in-dividual and group differences to be considered for intervention strategies and psychological support programs, in order to diminish suicidal risk in adolescent students.
