Presence of a foreing alive body in left bronchus. A case report

Abstract

Background: approximately 60 % of the foreign bodies accidentally go to the digestive system, mainly to the esophagus, the others going to the airway. 

Clinical case: a male patient, 18 years old, fisherman in who a fish was introduced into airways. A direct laryngoscopy was performed watching the foreign body. The patient presented severe respiratory failure symptoms. He was admitted to hospital where respiratory support with positive pressure ventilation was started. Forty eight hours after hospital admission and the onset of the symptoms, he was founded unconscious, with piping, subcutaneous emphysema in face, neck, and thorax; A bronchoscopy was performed. A foreign body left bronchus was observed and identified as a fish, proceeding to the withdrawal that stayed between the carina and observing material in decomposition, severe inflammatory process and great quantities of purulent secretions.

Conclusions: it was a foreign alive body (fish) that could withdrawal.
