Abstract
I read the Revista Médica del IMSS with great interest and was surprised to find the article “The Undervaluation of Dermatology Based on Ignorance and Its Impact on Patient Health” by Adán Fuentes Suárez and Luciano Domínguez Soto¹ included in the Social Medicine section, as it reflects the author's personal opinion; the editors and reviewers should have categorized it, at most, as an opinion piece. The article conveys a common belief among many of us—that only specialists in our own field are capable of solving its problems. It is unimaginable to expect that every patient with a skin lesion must be seen by a dermatologist; this would require an infinite number of skin specialists, and patients would be subjected to interconsultations that, in most cases, would only delay their care.
