Abstract

Pulmonary hypertension is a group of entities whose most severe form is represented by pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Patient survival is reduced without treatment, so early diagnosis and treatment should be the primary objective. The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social participates in this fight to improve the care of these patients, since it has doctors with knowledge in the entity and even a department of Pulmonary Hypertension and Right Heart from where a successful, viable and versatile structure proposal has been made. Time has shown that this may not be enough and that, due to the size of the national territory for effective medical coverage, the time for care may be prolonged. For this reason, other similar departments would be required within the highly specialized units of the institution.
