Abstract

This document is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Guillermo Fajardo Ortiz (1931–2025), a man who made history in Mexico’s health care system and a leading intellectual, academic, and moral reference in Mexican medicine. A graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with solid national and international postgraduate training, he devoted more than five decades to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) as a physician, educator, researcher, historian, and exemplary public servant. An integral humanist and institution builder, he strengthened the identity, ethics, and quality of health services. A pioneer of medical audit and an essential contributor to the Revista Médica del IMSS, his legacy endures through his works, his disciples, and the nation’s institutional memory.
