The Revista Médica del IMSS upholds a comprehensive document preservation policy aimed at ensuring the long-term permanence, integrity, and accessibility of its scientific content. This policy is grounded in the principles of interoperability, redundancy, and open access, in accordance with international best practices for scientific communication and digital preservation.

Since 2022, all articles accepted and published by the journal have been converted into the XML JATS (Journal Article Tag Suite) format and deposited in PubMed Central (PMC), following its technical and digital preservation standards. This process guarantees the continuous availability of the journal’s contents and their compatibility with international indexing and biomedical information retrieval systems.

In addition, the journal deposits its publications in Zenodo, an open-access repository managed by CERN and supported by the European Commission. This repository assigns a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each article, enhancing its traceability, citability, and preservation within a secure and sustainable digital environment.

In compliance with Mexican legislation regarding documentary heritage, the Revista Médica del IMSS also performs the legal deposit of its issues in the National Newspaper Library of Mexico (Hemeroteca Nacional de México), ensuring their preservation in digital format within the national archival collection. This measure safeguards the editorial memory of the Mexican Social Security Institute and supports the institutional preservation of the scientific knowledge it generates.

This preservation policy reflects the journal’s commitment to open science, editorial transparency, and the sustainability of scientific knowledge, ensuring that all published articles remain permanently accessible and verifiable, even in the face of technological or infrastructural changes.
